Moana 2 picks up three years after the events of the first movie. Moana, now an experienced wayfinder and chieftain of her people, faces a new and unexpected crisis. She receives a call from her ancestors, compelling her to embark on a perilous journey to the far seas of Oceania and into dangerous, uncharted waters.
The official synopsis reveals that Moana will reunite with the demigod Maui and assemble a brand-new crew of unlikely seafarers. Their mission is to find the lost island of Motufetu, break a curse that has disconnected the people of the ocean, and ultimately reconnect these scattered cultures.
Along the way, Moana and her crew will face formidable challenges, including a vengeful storm god named Nalo and his powerful enforcer, Matangi. The journey will test Moana's leadership and wayfinding skills as she navigates treacherous waters and encounters new creatures and cultures.
A significant plot point involves Maui's capture by Matangi, leaving Moana and her new allies to rescue him while also striving to achieve their primary goal of finding Motufetu. The film promises a grand adventure filled with action, humor, and the rich cultural tapestry of the Pacific Islands.
Moana 2 was released in theaters on November 27, 2024, and later became available for streaming on Disney+ on March 12, 2025.
The Wild Robot movie tells the story of a robot named ROZZUM unit 7134, or "Roz" for short, who finds herself shipwrecked alone on a remote, uninhabited island. Initially designed to serve humans, Roz must learn to adapt to the harsh wilderness and survive on her own.
Her attempts to interact with the island's wildlife are met with fear and aggression at first. However, Roz is a quick learner. By observing the animals, she gradually understands their behaviors and even learns to mimic their sounds, eventually developing a basic form of communication.
One day, a rockslide inadvertently leads to the death of a family of geese, leaving behind a single unhatched egg. Feeling responsible, Roz protects the egg from a hungry fox named Fink. When the gosling hatches, it imprints on Roz, believing her to be its mother. Roz, with the reluctant advice of a maternal opossum named Pinktail and the wisdom of an elder goose named Longneck, names the gosling Brightbill and dedicates herself to raising him.
An unlikely family forms between Roz, Brightbill, and Fink, who eventually becomes a helpful friend. Roz builds a shelter for them, and as Brightbill grows, she teaches him essential skills like swimming and, with the help of a falcon named Thunderbolt, how to fly. However, Brightbill struggles to fit in with other geese and is eventually heartbroken when he discovers Roz's accidental role in the death of his biological family.
During the geese's migration, a storm forces them to take shelter in a human greenhouse, triggering a contamination alert. This summons reconnaissance robots (RECOs) from Universal Dynamics, the company that created Roz. In the ensuing chaos, Longneck sacrifices himself to ensure the flock's escape.
Meanwhile, a severe snowstorm hits the island. Roz and Fink work together to provide shelter for the other animals, fostering an unexpected truce between predator and prey. The immense effort causes Roz to power down.
When spring arrives, Roz reawakens to a harmonious island and the return of Brightbill, now hailed as a hero by his flock. Their reunion is short-lived, as Universal Dynamics sends a retrieval robot named Vontra to bring Roz back. Roz flees with Fink, pursued by Vontra's dispatched RECO robots.
The island's animals band together to defend Roz in a climactic battle. Though they manage to fight off the RECOs, Vontra captures Roz and sets the forest ablaze. Brightbill intervenes, attacking Vontra's dropship to save Roz. Fink and the other animals work to extinguish the fire. Severely damaged but rebooting, Roz destroys Vontra and escapes with Brightbill just before the dropship explodes.
Recognizing the danger she brings to the island, Roz makes the difficult decision to leave, promising to return one day. Months later, she is seen working in a Universal Dynamics greenhouse, secretly retaining her memories of her wild family and their island home.
